Thrive Afrika announces Afrotellers Conference 2024

News | 29 July 2024

Thrive Afrika is thrilled to announce the Afrotellers 2024 Conference, set to take place from October 24th to 26th in Johannesburg, South Africa. This convening, themed “Beyond Borders: Mapping New Frontiers of Afrikan Narratives,” aims to be the premier gathering of Afrikan storytellers and creatives, bringing together a diverse group of professionals dedicated to reclaiming and reshaping Afrikan narratives.

Celebrating Afrikan Storytelling

Afrikan storytelling, with its rich traditions and diverse perspectives, holds immense potential to challenge stereotypes, celebrate diversity, and foster understanding. Despite this wealth of heritage, Afrikan voices are often underrepresented or misrepresented in mainstream media and harmful stereotypes continue to be perpetuated. The Afrotellers Conference seeks to address this imbalance by providing a platform for Afrikan storytellers to take control of their narratives and present authentic stories that reflect the true essence of Afrika

.

Conference Highlights

Afrotellers 2024 promises a dynamic and immersive experience, featuring keynotes, plenaries, workshops, cultural immersions, and exhibitions. Highlights include:

  • Keynotes and Plenaries: Delivered by some of Afrika’s leading storytellers and communications experts, these sessions will explore themes such as the evolution of Afrikan storytelling, ethical storytelling, and future trends in Afrikan narratives.
  • Workshops and Side Events: Industry leaders and conference partners will host technical workshops and side events, providing hands-on learning experiences for attendees.
  • Cultural Immersions: Attendees will have the opportunity to experience Johannesburg’s rich culture through guided tours, culinary experiences, and cultural performances.
  • Exhibitions and Entertainment: The conference will feature a multidisciplinary exhibition showcasing the best of Afrikan storytelling, as well as film screenings and other cultural activities.

Target Audience

The conference is designed for a wide range of professionals, including journalists, media specialists, NGO and corporate communications professionals, content creators, influencers, artists, creatives, brand builders, and policymakers. It offers a unique opportunity for these individuals to network, collaborate, and learn from one another.
